If there is anything I love as much as newborn photography, it’s first year sessions. I love creating fun first birthday pictures for families to enjoy for years to come. It’s such an important milestone. So many wonderful things happen during a little one’s first year and it’s so much fun celebrating with parents and, of course, the birthday kid themselves!
Every first birthday session starts with a few traditional set-ups, just like a newborn session. I have many different props and outfits available to use. From hair ties to rompers to baskets and buckets, I’ve got it all.
After our traditional set-ups, the fun really begins. How could eating cake not be fun, right? The way to create fun first birthday pictures is to come up with a theme or a color scheme. I have mom and dad choose and then I handle the rest. It’s awesome to really let my creative side come out.
Mom wanted a fall theme for her little ones cake smash. Instead of using traditional fall colors, we decided to go a little more girly and incorporate pinks and golds. I just love how it turned out. And this little lady just loved her cake! Usually if there is any cake left, we send it home for the parents to enjoy but, not this time. There wasn’t a bit of this cake that went untouched. She demolished it which made for some really fun first birthday pictures.
Here are a few of my favorite. Enjoy!
